Introduction

In 1984, in accordance with Article 19, paragraphs (c) and (d) of Law No. 2876, Atatürk Research Center established the “Specialized Library on Atatürk” and the “Atatürk Archive”, the subjects of which are Atatürk, the War of Independence and the History of the Republic.

The Library of Atatürk Research Center contains publications on Atatürk’s life, his works, the period of the War of Independence, the establishment of the Turkish Republic, the events that transpired during the Republican Era, and Atatürk’s Principles and Revolutions. Today, there are approximately 9,000 books, mostly in Turkish, and 2,000 bound journals in the library collection. The books in the collection are arranged according to the Dewey Decimal Classification System and periodicals are arranged alphabetically according to the name of the publication. The library of our center also includes theses and audiovisual materials (audio tapes, CDs, DVDs, etc.).

Although the majority of the collection is in Turkish, it shows a great diversity in terms of publication language. In addition to Turkish publications, there are publications in Russian, Kazakh, Bulgarian, Hungarian, Georgian, Greek, Ottoman, Arabic, English, French and German. The collection also includes copies of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s Great Speech (Nutuk), which has been translated into various languages (English, German, French, Kyrgyz, Kazakh, Russian, Persian) as well as the original (Ottoman Turkish) and the copies published in the modern Turkish language.
